Letter: Third Street bridge

The Third Street bridge is unnecessary and expensive. The problem with east-west traffic is not the lack of east-west routes; the problem is that so few of these routes provide controlled access to and across Mountain View Road. That problem would be easily and cheaply resolved with the addition of four-way stops at F Street and Sixth Street.

For some unfathomable reason, the City Council persists in imagining Mountain View as a high speed "ring road" around Moscow, when it is in fact the main arterial through a highly populated area of homes, churches, schools and the swim center. Four-way stops would have the advantage of slowing traffic down and providing safe crossings for pedestrians.

A four-way stop at Third and Hayes would also relieve congestion on Third Street.

These four-way stops could eventually be replaced with traffic lights or roundabouts as time and money permit.
