Wow, Tom – thanks for sharing! While I always enjoy Caturday, this Caturday is of particular interest to me because Pleasanton was my hometown for around twenty years, and it’s wonderful to see compassion and humanity is still alive and well there. I sent your post to a bunch of family & friends still in the area with a request that they be sure to express gratitude to and support for the Hop Yard (a popular spot) for me when they visit.

I hate to think of the outcome had they crossed paths with UI’s Dr. Death & his jury-rigged gas chamber :(

Five abandoned kittens found trapped under a wooden walkway are saved when good Samaritans disassemble the walkway to rescue them. Bonus goodness: they are reunited with their mother at the vet, resulting in a very happy Caturday.

WATCH: Good Samaritans Dismantle Pleasanton Walkway to Rescue Kittens

These adorable kittens miraculously survived for several days without their mother.

PLEASANTON, CA — Five kittens recently discovered under a wooden walkway near the Hop Yard Alehouse & Grill are getting a second chance at life after a group of Good Samaritans dismantled a wooden walkway to rescue them. Resident Nicole Beck shared these amazing photos of a kitten rescue as it unfolded in Pleasanton last week.

“We saw these super awesome vet employees and a Hop Yard employee working really hard to rescue five kittens trapped under a wooden path,” Beck told Patch. “The vet had the mom already.”

Beck said the group, which included employees from the Pleasanton Veterinary Hospital and the Hop Yard Alehouse & Grill, worked diligently to unscrew the wooden boards along the walkway in order to free the felines, believed to be about three weeks old.

Pleasanton Veterinary Hospital receptionist Beth Long said the mother cat was discovered about three days before the kittens.

“The momma approached one of our veterinarians and was very sweet,” Long told Patch. “We fed and vaccinated her but were not sure where the kittens were. Three days later, the manager from the Hop Yard came to the clinic and said his restaurant guests could hear kittens meowing.”

Long said after the arduous process of removing the wooden boards was complete, all five kittens were rescued. The litter of kittens and another kitten recently brought to the clinic all successfully nursed once they were introduced to the mother cat.

“They have been fed, bathed and they are thriving,” Long said.

The kittens will be available for adoption in about six weeks. The Pleasanton Veterinary Hospital <http://pleasantonvet.com/> is located at 3059-B Hopyard Road in Pleasanton.
