Police have been attacking indigenous protectors in Standing Rock as they peacefully defend their land and water. Over 1.5-million people have stood in solidarity through social media. Hundreds of religious leaders traveled to North Dakota to lead a vigil in support of the struggle to preserve the ancestral lands of the Standing Rock Sioux. Now it is our turn here on the Palouse to join this historic moment in support of environmental and social justice.
On Tuesday, November 15, the Palouse Environmental Sustainability Coalition and the Palouse Peace Coalition united in peaceful support to "Stand With Standing Rock" at 5 pm on Friendship Square. This has been declared a day of action across our country and we urge you to share this message with your congregations and join us. To quote Margaret Mead: "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."
