> THE CLOWN HAS TAKEN OVER THE PARTY - SONG OF THE WEEK
>
> Richard Nixon campaigned on a "Southern Strategy," exploiting white Southerners' animosity toward the Civil Rights movement. Some would call that racist. I, for instance, would call that racist. But it was a successful appeal to what Abraham Lincoln called, "the shittier angels of our nature." Richard Nixon made Donald Trump possible.
>
> Ronald Reagan appealed to racism too, with his talk of "Welfare Queens," and he swept into the presidency as an anti-government outsider who promised to clean up the mess in Washington. Because when your pipes burst and your floor is flooded, what you really need is an actor who plays a plumber. Ronald Reagan made Donald Trump possible.
>
> John McCain chose Sarah Palin. That made ANYTHING possible. Mitt Romney refused to release his taxes. That made Donald Trump INEVITABLE.
>
> Melanie and I wrote this new Song of the Week for all the Republicans who are wringing their hands and saying, "How could this happen?" You can fill a cake pan with bullshit and throw it in the oven for fifty years, but it's not going to be a cake.

> EVERYBODY IS EVERYBODY ELSE

> My theme is "Bringing People Together." It’s a great theme. Tremendous. Nobody can bring people together like me - believe me. We're gonna bring everybody together. The well-educated, the poorly educated. The articulate, the inarticulate. The good spellers, the dsfnweicwenns.
>
> Here's a Song of a Couple Weeks Ago. A song to Bring People Together, shot in the Times Square subway station by our dear friend Jackie Goodrich.

> IN MEMORIUM
>
> We were shocked and heartbroken by the loss last month of our dear friend, Jory Prum. A motorcycle accident took him at age 41. Jory was our audio engineer. He recorded me in the studio and live in concert over the last seven projects, always meticulous, intuitive, creative, with a great musical sense and a great sense of humor. And he taught me an immeasurable amount about recording.
>
> Melanie took this picture during the sessions for my "The Faucet's on Fire!" CD. It's the only picture of him we have with us on the road, but he is indelible, forever THE Jory Prum. We love him and miss him every day.
