"Fishing With Dad" by Douglas J. Williams

I remember my dad waking me up at 4 o'clock.
Barely getting up with my eyes half shut,
Getting ready and packing up dad's truck,
Hoping to catch some fish down at the dock.
Driving to the lake and still dark,
Watching dad drive and listening to my dogs bark.
Thinking this time I'll make my mark,
And just hoping to catch the big one.
On the boat driving around,
Knowing I won't be leaving with a frown.
Cause I'm with dad and he knows best,
Because he's wearing his famous fishing vest.
Tying the hooks on my line.
Too bad this pole isn't mine.
Dad said he'll buy me one when I'm older
And just a little more bolder.
I love my daddy so much
And I know he loves me too.
His love for me is stronger than glue,
And that is why I wrote this for you.
Dad if you are listening I love you so.
You are the reason why I glow.
