You sure are speculating a lot; one-upmanships, hoaxes that may develop into something considerably more threatening.

I'll bet some kid wasn't ready for a test. I'm sure the kid will be punished, and punishment is appropriate. But if you think some bold proclamation of punishment will serve as deterrent to the next dummy, you're fooling yourself.

Punishment must be imposed stipulating that this behavior will not be tolerated . . . before "bomb hoaxes" degenerates into a game of one-upmanship.

Punishment won't do much to prevent future hoaxes. Kids are impulsive, don't think they're going to be caught, and very, very, rarely do they consider consequences. Deterrence isn't a factor in their world.

Hoax or not, punishment MUST be imposed and publicly announced to prevent future "hoaxes"; hoaxes that may develop into something considerably more threatening.

The principal has now sent out a note saying someone admitted to making the threat as a hoax.  School still closed for the day.

School Superintendent Greg Bailey sent an alert email to middle school parents just after 11:30 a.m., alerting them of the closure.
Students and staff were initially evacuated to nearby Oylear Field, and will be relocated to Moscow High School, where parents can pick up children at the Third Street entrance. Parents are asked to check out children with school personnel on site.
