PRESS RELEASE
City Seeks Public Comment on Analysis of Impediments to Fair Housing & Fair Housing Action Plan

November 2, 2015 (Moscow, Idaho) - The City of Moscow Fair and Affordable Housing Commission is now taking public comment on the updated Analysis of Impediments to Fair Housing & Fair Housing Action Plan (AI). The work completed in developing the AI document included an analysis of both the private and public sector, involving the collection of data and review of City Codes, policies and plans to identify impediments to fair housing choice for Moscow's residents. The draft document will be presented at the regularly scheduled Fair and Affordable Housing Commission meeting on Thursday, November 5, in Council Chambers of City Hall located at 206 E. Third Street. The Commission will accept comments on the plan through Friday, December 4, after which time the document will be moved forward for adoption by the Moscow City Council.

The Federal Fair Housing Act prohibits discrimination in the sale or rental of housing on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, handicap, and familial status. The United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) requires cities entitled to funding through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program to certify that they will affirmatively promote fair housing by preparing an analysis of impediments to fair housing choice within their jurisdiction, implement actions to overcome the effects of any impediments identified by the analysis and maintain records of all relevant activities and actions taken. The updated AI document is the City's endeavor to fulfill the CDBG requirements instituted by HUD and to promote compliance with the federal Fair Housing Act.

The AI document can be found online at:
http://www.ci.moscow.id.us/records/Publications/Draft%20AI%20Document.pdf, or members of the public may review a printed copy of the document by visiting the Community Development Department located in the Paul Mann Building at 221 E. 2nd Street.
