PRESS RELEASE
City of Moscow and Safe Routes to School Celebrate National Bike Day with Fill the Racks! in Moscow, Idaho

May 1, 2015 (Moscow, Idaho) - The City of Moscow and the Safe Routes to School (SR2S) program are encouraging students to bike or roll to school on Wednesday, May 6th 2015 for Fill the Racks! a celebration of National Bike to School Day.

SR2S is encouraging all Moscow students and parents of students to bike, scoot, roll and/or walk to school on Wednesday May 6th. Any type active travel will do. Bussed students will be encouraged to do some sort of physical activity once they get to school as well. If students live far away from your school, "park and walk/bike locations" are set up around schools so students and parents can walk, bike, or scoot part of the way. Find park and walk locations starred in yellow on the large laminated map in your school entrance, or on our SR2S website (www.SR2Smoscow.com/maps<http://www.SR2Smoscow.com/maps>). SR2S encourages students to travel to school in "Bike Trains" or "Walking School Buses" as an enjoyable and safe way to travel in groups. SR2S also always encourages carpooling and riding the bus in efforts to decrease emissions and to increase safety around schools as well.

This year SR2S is encouraging everyone to decorate your bikes and/or helmets. Pictures will be taken once they get to school to share in their school's news. Once at school community volunteers will also teach children how to check the "A,B,C's" on their bikes (Air, Breaks and Chain).

When it comes to safety, parents and guardians are the best judges of children's ability to bike to school. Find bike safety tips and helmet fitting tips at the SR2S website www.sr2smoscow.com<http://www.sr2smoscow.com> under the category of "Safety." Parents and guardians are always encouraged to teach their children how to get to their destinations safely by riding and walking with them and teaching them to watch for cars coming out of driveways, even when walking and biking on the sidewalks. Police and law enforcement will be present in our community as they are all other school days. Please drive slowly and look out for children.

If you have questions about this event or would like to volunteer for Fill the Racks this year, please contact Brooke Lowry, Safe Routes Coordinator, by email at blowry at uidaho.edu<mailto:blowry at uidaho.edu>.
