PRESS RELEASE
City of Moscow’s Fourth of July Celebration 2015!!!
Everyone is invited: Friendship Square, Saturday, July 4, noon!

June 24, 2015 (Moscow, Idaho) — The 239th celebration of the Fourth of July will take center stage on Moscow’s Friendship Square Saturday, July 4, 2015, at 12 noon sharp, joining the weekly Moscow Farmers Market this year. Free ice cream, patriotic readings, songs, and stories along with red, white and blue decorated dogs will crowd the one hour presentation again this year.

The City of Moscow will be producing the event, with the coordination of Linda Pall, former Moscow City Council member, who devised the celebration after several years of declining participation in other activities around the Fourth of July. Pall said that she couldn’t believe more than ten years had passed since the celebration was established noting, “The Mayor, City Council and City staff are to be commended for their continued support and participation over the years.”

The presentation of the colors with local Scouting assistance, the Pledge of Allegiance and singing of the National Anthem will begin the ceremony. A favorite part of the event is the reading of the Declaration of Independence. This central document of American democracy brings tears to the eyes of many on this important anniversary. Political observations from local elected officials as well as an essay written by Shay Godfrey, an elementary age student who spends summers in Moscow with relatives and loves the Fourth of July will round out the political presentations.

Moscow’s ever popular “Mutt Strutt” offers the canine population of Moscow and the surrounding area to strut their stuff in red, white and blue for audience adulation and doggie-appropriate prizes, judged by the applause of the crowd on Friendship Square. Signups will begin at the Celebration table at 11:30 AM and continue through 12:15 PM. Dogs with their owners/handlers will assemble at 12 noon. Be there early to make sure your Bowser is lined up to be presented.

The celebration concludes at 1 PM with the crowd singing Woody Guthrie’s famous anthem, “This Land Is Your Land,” following the awarding of prizes.
