Notice of Candidate Filing Deadline

June 4, 2015 (Moscow, Idaho) - A general election for the City of Moscow will be held Tuesday, November 3, 2015 to elect three City Council positions, each for a term of four years.  In order to be considered a candidate for those positions, interested individuals must file a Declaration of Candidacy specifying the office sought and affirming they are a qualified City Elector.  The filing period for Declaration of Candidacy opens at 8 a.m. on Monday, August 24 and closes at 5 p.m. on Friday, September 4.

Requirements to be a qualified City Elector eligible to run in the election or sign a Petition form on behalf of another individual interested in declaring their candidacy include being at least 18 years of age and a U.S. citizen.  Additionally, the potential candidate's voter registration address must match the residence address provided on the candidate's Declaration of Candidacy form and they must have resided in the city for at least thirty (30) days prior to submitting their declaration.  The Declaration of Candidacy form must be accompanied by a nonrefundable filing fee of $40 or a Petition form signed by at least five qualified City Electors whose signatures must be verified by the Latah County Clerk's Office.  Finance campaign reporting laws require that a treasurer be named and an Appointment and Certification of Political Treasurer form be filed with the City Clerk in addition to the Declaration of Candidacy form.   All completed and verified forms are then due to the Moscow City Clerk for receipt and certification.

Individuals interested in declaring candidacy may begin fundraising prior to the time period open for acceptance of candidacy forms, once a campaign treasurer is certified.  To appoint a campaign treasurer, an Appointment and Certification of Political Treasurer form must be completed and submitted to the Moscow City Clerk.  A campaign treasurer must be appointed and certified prior to any fundraising and can be done prior to the opening of the filing period.

Declaration of Candidacy, Petition, and Appointment and Certification of Political Treasurer forms are available at the City of Moscow Office of the City Clerk at Moscow City Hall, 206 E. 3rd Street, Moscow, Idaho from the hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.  All forms are to be returned to the same office, please note the requirement for verification by Latah County of all Petition form signatures prior to submittal to the Moscow City Clerk.
