With the price per barrel having crashed, it might now be a good opportunity to invest in big oil if your conscience allows such a thing.  A lot of stocks and master limited partnerships in energy pay good dividend yields and have decent upside appreciation potential.  And yet per the usual disclaimer, past performance does not guarantee future results.  To boot, with the spectre of the Republicans once again having consolidated power in 2016, expect their failed economic mantra of tax cuts and spending cuts to send us spiraling once again into a deep recession.

I think it will last-though not THIS low.  OPEC made a mistake, and the basic rule of economics kicked them for it.  They allowed their price to get high enough to spur research into cheaper methods.
OPEC will keep the price of a bbl just below what it takes for the frackers and tar sand folk to be profitable.
