[Vision2020] 2015 Art Workshops at the 1912 Center Arts Room in Moscow, ID

The City of Moscow Arts Commission and the 1912 Center & Heart of the Arts, Inc. have partnered to provide art workshops for children and adults. These workshops provide not only a day of fun but an opportunity to learn new skills and gain experience in a variety of art fields.

These workshops include: Jewelry Embossing with Patricia Cassidy, Basic Pastel Painting with Bonnie Griffith, Experimental Pastel Painting with Bonnie Griffith, Drawing in Color with Dana Aldis, and
Photography in Blue: Cyanotype with Harlan Crichton.

Jewelry Embossing

[cid:image011.jpg at 01D02698.4DE915F0]In Jewelry Embossing participants will learn the process of embossing (impressing a design onto a metal surface) and learn to bend metal to the design of their choice on three pair of earrings or pendants.

Instructor: Patricia Cassidy

Ages: 18 years-of-age and older

Location: 1912 Center - Arts Room

Dates: February 11

Year: 2015

Time: 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Minimum/Maximum Class Size: 6/10

Fee: $78 supplies provided

The application deadline is February 9, 2015 by 5:00 p.m. After the deadline, applications will be accepted if space is available.

Basic Pastel Painting

[cid:image012.jpg at 01D02698.4DE915F0]Basic Pastel Painting is an introductory workshop to the beginning pastel artist. Participants will learn the basics to using this medium.

Instructor: Bonnie Griffith

Ages: 18 years-of-age and older

Location: 1912 Center - Arts Room

Date: March 14 & 15

Year: 2015

Time: 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Minimum/Maximum Class Size: 3/12

Fee: $150 (covers both sessions) plus cost of supplies

Supplies needed:

Students will provide their own pastels (suggest a set of at least 20-30 Rembrandt, Unison, Schmincke or Sennelier). Landscape sets work great. Call instructor with questions. 509-301-1188 Instructor will provide initial paper supply and other basics as part of workshop cost. Additional paper and some special pastels may be purchased from instructor.

The application deadline is March 12, 2015 by 5:00 p.m. After the deadline, applications will be accepted if space is available.

Experimental Pastel Painting

[cid:image013.jpg at 01D02698.4DE915F0]Experimental Pastel Painting is for the pastelist who has been working in pastels and who wants to take their work to the next level.

Instructor: Bonnie Griffith

Ages: 18 years-of-age and older

Location: 1912 Center - Arts Room

Dates: March 21

Year: 2015

Time: 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Minimum/Maximum Class Size: 3/12

Fee: $125 plus cost of supplies

Supplies needed:

Instructor will provide paper and pastel grounds for this workshop. Students will provide their own pastels (suggest a set of at least 20-30 Rembrandt, Unison, Schmincke or Sennelier). Drawing in Color

[cid:image014.jpg at 01D02698.4DE915F0]In Drawing in Color participants will develop their drawing skills and hand-eye coordination while working from observation (not photographs). Students will learn basic traditional drawing techniques such as line, structure, value/shading and cross-hatching, as well as composition. No experience is necessary and all materials will be provided. Students will work at their own pace and complete 2 or 4 pieces of art to take home.

Instructor: Dana Aldis

Ages: up to 15 years-of-age

Location: 1912 Center - Arts Room

Date: April 8, 15, 22 & 29

Year: 2015

Time: 4:30 to 6:00 p.m.

Minimum/Maximum Class Size: 4/7

Fee: $128 (all 4 sessions) supplies provided

or $32 per class (drop in) supplies provided

The application deadline is April 6, 2015 by 5:00 p.m. After the deadline, applications will be accepted if space is available.

Photography in Blue: Cyanotype

[cid:image015.jpg at 01D02698.4DE915F0]In Photography in Blue: Cyanotype participants will use cyanotype, a non-toxic alternative photographic process, to produce beautiful images. No photography experience is necessary. Participants will have the opportunity to create one of a kind images using found materials, old film, pressed flowers, jewelry, or any other relatively flat objects.

Instructor: Harlan Crichton

Ages: 10 years-of-age and older

Location: 1912 Center - Arts Room

Date: April 25

Year: 2015

Time: 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Minimum/Maximum Class Size: 4/12

Fee: $25 supplies provided

The application deadline is April 23, 2015 by 5:00 p.m. After the deadline, applications will be accepted if space is available.
