Cat found frozen to Burlington building'Olaf' recovering in vet clinicA cat is recovering from life-threatening injuries suffered after he was found frozen to the side of a building in downtown Burlington late Friday night.
Suffering from hypothermia and dehydration, the one to two-year-old domestic short-haired cat was spotted by a Good Samaritan and rushed to a local veterinary clinic, according to Adrienne Maranduik, Burlington Humane Society shelter manager.
The grey cat, with white markings on its nose, chest and paws, was unable to stand and close to death when found, said Maranduik.
It is believed that the animal, nicknamed Olaf in honour of the snowman in the popular Disney movie Frozen, was wet when he snuggled against the building near Brant and Fairview streets to find warmth, she said.
"This animal was dangerously close to death and without the immediate care he received, he would not have lived much longer," she said. "This story is a great example as to why you should not let your cat outside especially in cold weather."
Burlington bylaws state that cats are not allowed to roam, but "not everyone abides by that."
If all goes well, Olaf will be put up for adoption within a week. He will be neutered, vaccinated and microchipped, said Maranduik.
Olaf was found frozen to the side of a building in the area of Brant and Fairview last Friday. He is now recovering at local veterinary clinic.
