> On Sunday, March 7, 1965 I was a fidgeting seven-year old at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sunnyvale, CA. Twenty-three hundred miles away, in Selma, AL state troopers took their clubs to the skulls of peaceful protesters while I dropped a dime in the offering plate with my Brylcreem-y fingers. Two nights later, I was tracing Family Circus comics in my room on Coleraine Court while James Reeb, a Unitarian minister who’d arrived in Selma from Boston, was beaten senseless by white segregationists. And as he died in a Birmingham hospital two days after that, I jumped my Stingray off the curb at Panama Elementary School.

I formed my satirical quartet The Foremen in the late 80’s and from the very start, we had a rock-solid foundation with Denny Croy on the stand-up bass. Denny’s impeccable musicianship (and irrepressible punmanship) saw us into the 90’s, and even when Andy Corwin assumed the bass-playing duties live, we brought Denny in for most of our recording sessions for Reprise. Why? ‘Cause he’s all about that bass.
