More details on Dunes trashed by crowd of college students, Corps looking for volunteers to help clean up

September 8, 2014
College students have once again trashed a Snake River beach forcing it’s closure by the US Army Corps of Engineers. The Corps reports a large crowd of about 18 hundred college students left an enormous amount of trash at the Dunes on Saturday. Broken bottles and beer cans were left in the sand and in the river along with extensive human waste on the beach and shoreline. There are bathrooms at the Dunes which apparently were not used by many party goers. Drivers also parked illegally on the county road next to the beach. The Corps has shut down the Dunes until further notice. Two years ago a crowd of about three thousand college students trashed the Dunes in August which forced the Corps to close down the beach for clean up. The Corps is accepting volunteers to help clean up the mess. If you would like to help out call 509-751-0240. The Dunes are located just downriver from Lower Granite Dam West of Pullman and Washington State University.
