Beware John Carlson, Liberty Caucus
I am concerned that John Carlson, running for Idaho Senate, is endorsed by the Idaho Liberty Caucus.
If you don't know about the Liberty Caucus, you should. Their leader organized local residents to drive to Nevada and support Cliven Bundy's militia standoff. John Carlson and his wife expressed their support. That's right, people from Latah County were supporting Bundy, the notorious racist who stated he does not "recognize the United States government as even existing."
Clearly this is not an organization reasonable people should be involved with. When the Republican Convention "Moscow Mess" ended in disarray with no business conducted and no leaders elected, the Liberty Caucus took credit and considered it a success, having packed the Credentials Committee with their members.
To receive the Liberty Caucus endorsement, John Carlson completed a questionnaire to make sure he shared the Liberty Caucus' beliefs. Over 80 questions ranged from the typical, like cutting education funding, to the bizarre, like murder on a military base. His responses have not been released to the public. Wouldn't you like to read his responses before you vote? I certainly would.
We do know Carlson signed a pledge to "shrink government" and "abolish programs." This is bad news for anyone at the University of Idaho. Which programs and jobs will he abolish here?
It is very noteworthy that our other candidates, Cindy Agidius and Caroline Nilsson Troy did not pursue the endorsement of the Liberty Caucus. Who would want an endorsement from the Cliven Bundy crowd?
