Of course, First Nation people & those of us who understand that protecting our water is crucial for this country’s success disagree with your silliness, but that’s never bothered you before & I don’t expect it to bother you now :)

Yes indeed, quite the victory for you the people. Canada will continue to extract from the tar sands, the product will continue across US soil via truck and rail and/or be piped to BC for tanker shipment, and the end result will still be turned into fuel for the world market. Congratulations on saving the planet. It seems to me that the biggest winner will be the folks that administer unemployment benefits, food stamps, and of course your beloved leader.

FYI, Mr. Dredge -

U.S. House Bill 5682, the "Keystone XL Pipeline" bill, was sponsored by Republican Bill Cassidy, Ms. Landrieu's opponent for her Senate seat.

What we had here was a Democrat promoting a bill sponsored by a Republican, the Democrat's opponent.

The result: They both lost and . . . WE THE PEOPLE WON !

This was largely just a game of political chess. This bill was being trumpeted by Louisiana Democrat Senator Mary Landrieu in a last ditch effort to try and demonstrate that she had enough influence over her own party to get the bill through the Senate. She failed, so she's toast and she'll lose her runoff election to Republican Bill Cassidy who sponsored the House version of the bill. Not that she necesssarily would have won the had the Senata bill been passed anyway. The Republicans will push this through in the next session when they have the majority and then Obama can veto it if he so wishes.
