Geez, Mr. Hansen, I didn't say I approved, I was just trying to explain why some people--mostly large Texas oil companies and the Canadian Gov't might have the hots for the project. Here's an illustration of the current pipeline route, which is called Keystone, and the route for the expansion (called Keystone XL). There was a bottleneck at Cushing OK, but Transcanada bought a pipeline that ran from Texas to Cushing and reversed the flow, allowing more oil to flow south to Texas(Gulf Coast Project) instead of relying on Midwest refineries.
There's a lot of controversy over where the refined products would end up. Right now the refineries in the Texas free-trade zone bring in crude from Venezuela and Saudi Arabia, and export refined products tax free. A lot of diesel goes to Europe and China where there's more demand than in the US. The XL expansion allows refinery expansion, as it would carry about as much crude as they now import from the aforementioned countries.Of course, the companies deny their increased export intentions.
Where Keystone's oil will go
Where Keystone's oil will go
Supports say Keystone will cut U.S. reliance on foreign oil. Critics say the crude will be exported. They're both right.

Of course, with crude prices dropping to $80 per barrel, both tar sands and fracking are becoming imperiled. Are the Saudis dropping the prices to kill both competitors, or are they in league with the US and Europe to undermine the Russian economy (which is based on oil exports)? You see, even us libruls have conspiracy theories.

But don't worry, our President will continue to "kick hippies" They're now saying they may approve XL if the State Dept., not Congress has the final say:

JEESH !
How about a link to substantiate your "claims", Mr. Force?
What a pack of lies !
Foreign trade zone?
Mostly diesel?
How's this for a question . . .
A water main (80,000 [EIGHTY THOUSAND] gallons per hour) in Los Angeles, broke a few months ago. It took city crews 90 (NINETY) minutes to respond.
How soon would you anticipate crews to respond to a broken pipeline (estimated 830,000 [EIGHT HUNDRED THIRTY THOUSAND] barrels per day) in a farm field out in the middle of nowhere in Nebraska over the Ogallala Aquifer (which provides drinking water to 80% (EIGHTY PERCENT) of the midwest population?

And, what pipeline is currently being used to deliver oil to Houston . . . as you claim?
Seeya 'round town, Moscow, because . . .

Yep, Texas likes it:

>>Senator James M. Inhofe, the Oklahoma Republican who calls climate change "the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on the American people" and compared the Environmental Protection Agency to the gestapo, will "almost certainly" be the next chair of the Senate's Environment and Public Works Committee.
>>Senator Inhofe, who is poised to become the most powerful senator on the environment, is the same man who has compared the scientific consensus over manmade global warming to Adolf Hitler's conception of the Jewish conspiracy.
>>Now, you might be asking yourself: Wait, is this the guy who compared the demonization of carbon dioxide to Hitler's demonization of Jews? No. You're thinking of climate-denying physicist William Harper. Senator Inhofe has a completely different Third-Reichian climate change theory. In a 2006 interview with Tulsa World, Inhofe said of the scientific consensus on manmade climate change:
>>"It kind of reminds... I could use the Third Reich, the big lie," Inhofe said.
>>Only Inhofe kind of flubbed the reference*. The "Big Lie," (or Große Lüge, in German) was a term coined by Adolf Hitler in Mein Kampf to describe the propaganda technique of Jews who purportedly told lies "so colossal" that no one would believe "others could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously." (Yes, the climate scientists in this analogy are the Jews.)
>>So, to clarify:
>>"Jews are carbon dioxide that we are demonizing" = William Harper.
>>"Climate scientists are Jews spreading lies" = Oklahoma Senator James M. Inhofe, the man likely to chair the Environment and Public Works Committee when the GOP takes control of the Senate next year.
>>And to make matters worse, Inhofe will be joined by a few climate-denying friends.
>>*Of course, Inhofe almost certainly meant to attribute the notion of a "big lie" to the third reich itself, as opposed to Hitler's conceptions of Jewish conspiracy, but we're not going to spend any more time sifting through his intentions, because the fact is that dissecting the meaning of any analogy that conflates climate scientists with Nazis is patently insane.
