PRESS RELEASE
Moscow School District to Host Summer Lunch Program

May 21, 2014 (Moscow, Idaho) - The Moscow School District (MSD) will offer free summer lunch meals to children Monday through Friday, June 9 through August 14, (excluding July 4) at 11:30 a.m. at West Park Elementary/Ghormley Park (510 Home Street) and at the Eggan Youth Center (1515 East D Street). Lunches are free to all children ages 1 to 18 and they do not have to be residents of Moscow or Latahy County. There are no income requirements or applications to fill out, simply show up for food and fun!

The Summer Food Program is a USDA federal program that allows children between the ages of one and eighteen to receive meals during the summer when they do not have access to the school meal program. All children in Moscow and Latah County are eligible to receive these meal benefits.

Volunteers are needed to make this program a success. MSD is hoping to have volunteers at the meal site each day to serve meals to children, interact with all participants and help with clean up. Because this is a USDA program, there are strict requirements that the meals are consumed by children and that they are not taken off site, so supervision is needed.

The total cost of meals served to children under this USDA federal program will be reimbursed by the Idaho Department of Education. Moscow School District Food Service Staff will prepare the food and serve the meals. The USDA summer food program requires records to be kept of the number of participants each day; participation will determine the future of the program.

For more information on the Moscow School District Summer Food Program, please contact program coordinator Mimi Pengilly, R.D., Moscow School District Director of Student Nutrition Services at 208.892.1123.
