PRESS RELEASE
University of Idaho and Safe Routes to School Celebrate National Bike Day with Fill the Racks! in Moscow, Idaho

May 5, 2014 (Moscow, Idaho) - Safe Routes to School (SR2S) is encouraging students to bike, roll, or glide to school on Wednesday, May 7th for the annual Fill the Racks! event. Fill the Racks! is an annual event during National Bike Month (May) that coincides with National Bike to School Day this year. Our events at each school have been added to the 1,600 events happening nation-wide, http://www.walkbiketoschool.org/go/whos-biking/2014. All eight Moscow Public and Charter Schools grades K-8 are planning to participate.

All students who get to school by active travel (including walking and/or bus) will be celebrated this year and will receive reflective stickers for their bikes or helmets. All bikers are encouraged to wear helmets and check their A,B,C's (Air, Brakes and Chain) before getting on their bikes. Features of this year's event include:

* Pre-event free bike tune-ups at each school this year!

* Parents, U of I students and community volunteers will be helping with the morning's events at each school

* The University of Idaho Cycling Team will be at each school providing tips on biking techniques.

* Schools that achieves their goal to fill their racks will be featured on the SR2S Moscow Facebook page and web-site (www.SR2Smoscow.com<http://www.SR2Smoscow.com>)

* Student bike art made from recycled bike parts will be displayed in front of the Moscow Middle School the day of and then transferred to another location down-town for display after the event.

* Reflective stickers for bikes and helmets will be given out from Safe Routes to School.

Safe Routes to School (SR2S) events always encourage safety, physical activity, reduced traffic congestion, and the enjoyment of the outdoors together as a community.
