Dan and Roger, there really isn’t such a thing as, “in between.” For you I’m sure it isn’t a big deal, but when one takes even a glimpse at the legislation proposed in Idaho, passed and then vetoed in Arizona, it is a big deal. In conversation in my house the other day there was a remark that started as a compliment about a friend, but ended with the words, “but he’s gay, you know.” It reminds me of the many, many times compliments about females ended with the words, “for a woman.” Until those qualifiers no longer have any application, it is a big deal.

I took Paul's point to mean that it shouldn't be a big deal to anyone: the advocates for and the bigots against, and those of us in between to whom it already isn't a big deal.
"That actress just came out as a lesbian!"
"That football player came out as gay!"
"Huh. Well now. What's for lunch?"

So you're being deliberately obtuse. You do realize that our bigots don't take your approach?

I'd like to echo this sentiment. It shouldn't matter. It reminds of the "first black female 42 year-old tuba playing astronaut with buck teeth" crap you'd get from NASA every time a shuttle launched. We shouldn't care anymore. That's the damn point.

So what. It should not make any difference what her or the NFL football player's sexual orientation is. What I don't like is making a big production out of it.

'Miss Kentucky Djuan Keila Trent, a 2011 Miss America contestant, has come out as "queer" on her personal blog, making her the first out lesbian contestant to have competed at a national level.'
