Celebrity Cats Video Uses YouTube Views to Donate Food to Animal Shelters
Cat Summer’ pays musical tribute to the famous Colonel Meow, as well as provides cat food to cats in need

The ASPCA estimates that in the United States 3.4 million cats enter shelters each year and only 1.3 million cats are adopted from shelters each year. This disparity makes the cost of caring for cats extremely high, and with many shelters operating only off donations, it causes shelters to have to make some tough decisions.

According to the ASPCA, 1.4 million cats are euthanized each year, and this is not solely because they are feral or otherwise unadoptable. A large reason for this staggering number is that animal shelters simply cannot afford to provide for their high number of inhabitants. To provide some assistance with to the cats in shelters nationwide, Purina Friskies has launched a YouTube music video campaign that allows all of us to lend a helping hand.



‘Cat Summer’ features five famous cats in starring roles: Oskar the Blind Cat and his friend Klaus, Hamilton the Hipster Cat, Nala Cat, and of course Grumpy Cat. In the video, the cats frolic in the sun, hit the sprinklers, play croquet, enjoy a barbeque, and have fun as only cats can, all to provide food to cats in need. Friskies will donate one meal of dry cat food for every view the video gets through September 1, 2014, up to one million meals. In addition to the fare, the video pays tribute to fellow celebrity cat Colonel Meow, who passed away earlier this year due to heart problems.

Knowing about the numbers of cats in need is a good first step, but if these cats have any hope of surviving, getting involved has to be the next. If you’re able to make monetary donations to the ASPCA or your local shelter, that’s great; but you can also help simply by sharing this video. Spread the word and help make sure this is the best Cat Summer yet.
