PRESS RELEASE
Moscow Planning and Zoning Commission Seeks Community Input on Accessory Dwelling Units

January 17, 2014 (Moscow, Idaho) - The City of Moscow Planning and Zoning Commission will hold a public input session on Wednesday, January 22nd from 5 - 6:30 P.M. regarding the potential allowance of Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) within the City of Moscow.

ADUs are generally small-scale residential units that are accessory to a single-family home. Also known as granny flats, mother-in-law units, laneway houses, or secondary dwelling units, ADUs were more common in the U.S. prior to the 1960's. Many cities are now realizing several benefits of ADUs including efficient use of existing developed land and public infrastructure, creation of affordable housing opportunities, increased income opportunity for home owner's, and the opportunity to care for an elderly or disabled family member in an independent living arrangement.

The open house meeting is intended to provide an opportunity for community members to learn about ADUs and provide input to the Planning and Zoning Commission regarding the potential allowance of ADUs within Moscow.

The meeting will be open house format with poster stations to share information about ADUs and solicit public comment and input. The public is encouraged to visit the open house anytime between 5:00 and 6:30 PM in City Council Chambers of City Hall located at 206 E. Third Street. For more information please call the City of Moscow Community Development Department at 208.883.7035
