Senator Tec Cruz' (R-TX) fillibuster to prevent the U.S. Senate from conducting a simple majority vote rejecting House Joint Resolution 59 (funding of the U.S. Government for fiscal year 2014).



Footnote:  If the government is shutdown, active duty soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines WILL NOT get paid (even thise in harm's way in Afghanistan who have families in the states reliant on that paycheck to put food on the table) . . . while members of congress continue to get paid.

Simply put . . . 

Congress members will get paid.  Members of the armed forces won't.
