PRESS RELEASE
City of Moscow Parks and Recreation Commission Requests Comment on Proposed Park Name
May 13, 2013 - The City of Moscow Parks and Recreation Commission is seeking public comment on the proposed name of the property to be developed along the old Columbia Grain Company train spur. The property is located between North Lilly Street and North Asbury Street, south of A Street along the old train spur that serviced Columbia Grain Company.
The proposed park name, "Lillian Otness Park," is in memory of Lillian Otness, a life-long resident of Moscow, who according to Daniel Crandall, Executive Director the Latah County Historical Society, "diligently worked to preserve and celebrate the heritage of Moscow and Latah County". In 1983 her book, A Good Great Country: A Guide to Historic Moscow and Latah County, ID was published and Mr. Crandall states, "this book represents one of the most valuable resources on the shelves at the Latah county Historical Society."
The sixty (60) day public comment period will be open through July 12, 2013 and residents are invited to voice support or opposition to the proposed name, which will be considered by the Moscow City Council when presented for approval in mid-summer.
Comments can be delivered to the Moscow Parks and Recreation office at the Hamilton Indoor Recreation Center, located at 1724 E. F St., or sent by e-mail to enewell at ci.moscow.id.us<mailto:enewell at ci.moscow.id.us> with the subject line of "Park Naming Comments." For information, call (208) 883-7084.
