Exactly, Janesta, and according to those in the know, VoIP is the biggest
abuser of these spoofed numbers. For those interested in reading more,
Wikipedia has a decent layperson explanation:

Note, too, that the person whose name you & Tom have posted (which I've
deleted) no longer has the "real" number, which as I mentioned is no longer
in service. That's part of the way some of these boiler room organizations
work: they get phone numbers that have become invalid over the past 6-12
months precisely so that folks will be fooled into thinking the call is
legit.

There is an ap, or program which can mask the original phone number.

This phone number is listed to XXXXX, with addresses in Sandpoint, Newport &
Portland, OR, as well as Moscow.

We just got a weird call I wanted to share so that if you've got CallerID,
you can just skip answering the phone.

CallerID info shows "Sandpoint ID" as the caller with the phone number of
208-263-7330.

Thinking it was a friend, I answered the phone. The woman asked for my
husband, I asked who was calling, and she said, "My name is Patricia, and
I'm calling on behalf of the oil & gas industry."

She asked if he still lives in Moscow, and then asked if he currently has an
annual income of $250,000 or more or assets of $1 million or more. He asked
what the call was about, she repeated the question, he asked who she was
calling for, she repeated the question for the third time, and he hung up.

I tried calling the number back to find out more information to file a
complaint with the FCC, and what a surprise -- the number isn't in service.

So, beware of all calls purporting to be from Sandpoint ID if you don't
recognize the specific number.
