[Vision2020] ID's GOP Continues to Advocate for Nanny Statehood

I'm against this bill.  I sympathize with those who want to help those who are addicted to gambling, but there are better ways to do this.  If a person needs help, we should have programs available to help them. Otherwise, we should let them make their own choices about what to do with their money.

Yikes -- sorry for the incomplete first sentence below!  What I meant to say
was:

"Note:  while Idaho's GOP has decided it should be able to tell me what form
of legal tender . . . "

Note:  while Idaho's GOP it should be able to tell me what form of legal
tender I could use to purchase lottery tickets (if I purchased any, which I
don't), it remains stunningly silent about the real abuses by check cashing
and payday loan thieves.  Just more typical Idaho Republican wingnut
hypocrisy.

Panel backs ban on using debit cards on lottery

Posted: Saturday, March 23, 2013 7:55 am

The Senate State Affairs Committee has advanced a bill nixing
over-the-counter purchase of Idaho lottery game tickets with a credit or
debit card.

The committee approved the bill Friday and sent it to the floor of the
Senate for debate in the final days of the Legislature. It has already
cleared the House.

Republican Rep. Lynn Luker of Boise is among the leading advocates of the
ban. Luker says the bill is a step toward combating the social costs caused
with problem gambling by forcing customers to use cash instead of credit.

The bill has its share of detractors, including retailers and convenience
store owners. Idaho Retailers Association lobbyist Pam Eaton says the bill
essentially tells customers they can't use a legitimate form of legal tender
to buy legal products.
