How ironic that the Idaho GOP will host an event on a campus where guns are not allowed! Apparently there stance on the second amendment is more flexible than we thought! Joe

> It's doubtful the INKster, a lifelong Democrat, and Walter Steed will ever see eye-to-eye, but she respects the job he has done as chairman of the Latah County Republican Party. She also likes some of the things he has done as a Moscow City Councilman like signing off on a letter based on a memo from Moscow Police Chief David Duke recommending ways of curbing gun violence should the Legislature take up the issue this session.
> But as reported in the Feb. 27 issue of the Daily News by reporter Brandon Macz, Republican tea partier and precinct committeeman Gresham Bouma led the charge at the February meeting calling for Steed's resignation.
> Interestingly, Steed was not present at the meeting.
> Bouma, who had obviously not understood the intent of the city letter, accused Steed of trying to infringe on "the right to bear arms."
> The INKster has talked to Steed a couple of times since he was asked to resign, including Wednesday morning.
> "I still haven't made up my mind about stepping down," Steed said. "There are a lot of people from both parties encouraging me to stay on as chairman."
> And the INKster is one of them.
> Since the INKster knew State Rep. Cindy Agidius was a Republican precinct committee woman in Latah County, she called her to get a comment on the Steed situation.
> She replied with the following email:
> "I have not been involved in the gun letter debate as I have been in Boise. I did not attend the meeting on Tuesday (Feb. 26). I suggest you contact someone who was there to answer any of your questions regarding that meeting. As you can see, the outcome would suggest that 2nd amendment rights are something that GOP members feel strongly about."
> And the INKster would surmise Agidius is about as astute as Bouma.
> The next Republican Central Committee meeting is March 26.
> One of the recent coups that Latah GOP chairman Steed pulled off was securing the 2014 Republican Convention to be held in Moscow on the University of Idaho campus.
> In case some of the gun freaks show up for the June 2014 convention the INKster had some questions about how the university would deal with such problems so she wrote about her concerns to UI President Duane Nellis. He was forthcoming in his reply. He started by explaining how nailing down the convention came about.
> "University Support Services worked in collaboration with the Moscow Chamber of Commerce and local businesses to win the 2014 Republican Convention for the City of Moscow as a means of promoting economic activity for the community," Nellis wrote in an email. "The university is furnishing the ASUI-Kibbie Dome as well as optional housing in residence halls for the convention, at the same rates the university charges to any other third party user of our facilities."
> What about weapons?
> "All policies of the university, including our weapons policies, will apply to this convention and be enforced in the same fashion as they apply to any third party users of our facilities," Nellis concluded.
> The INKster imagines he then went back to packing his saddle bags for Lubbock. Oddly, the INKster almost could hear the Texas Tech fight song playing in the background.
