"I find this whole thing appalling and despicable," North College Hill Police Chief Gary Foust told the Daily News at the time.

The teens, all 13 and 14, told authorities they attacked Mahaney because they were looking for something to do.

Two of the boys were sentenced to probation last month. Three others pleaded guilty to felonious assault and face sentencing, while the sixth teen is contesting the charges and may go to trial.

"If the coroner comes back and says that his injuries are a result of that beating those kids will be charged with some type of homicide offense," legal analyst Mike Allen told Fox19.

Pat Mahaney, who had been distraught and neglected his health since the August attack, became sick last week, his family told the Cincinnati Enquirer. He died at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, the Hamilton County Prosecutor’s Office said.

As appalling as the attack was against Mr. Mahaney, he neglected his health for almost a year after the incident.  Trayvor Martin was not afforded that opportunity.
