[Vision2020] Trayvon Martin rally?

OK, thanks for the clarification.

I don't think I'm the best one to answer your question, but I'll give it a
try J

It seems to me there's something definitely wrong with the laws in Florida
-- assuming the jurors deliberated in good faith -- when a man can get away
with killing an unarmed innocent child in a confrontation said man
instigated by aggressively stalking the victim. I don't live in FL, and I'm
not a legal scholar of the laws in FL (or anywhere else!), but to me, it's a
no brainer that if the law in FL permits this kind of horse sh*t, there's
something terribly, terribly wrong.

As for the "outrage" aspect of your question, I guess I'd respond that
"outrage" to unjust verdicts and treatment is a time-honored way to bring
attention to issues and advocate needed change. There are many examples,
but I'll just toss the whole domestic violence issue out there. Were it not
for some high profile cases in which women who clearly had the crap beat out
of them (not the kind of insignificant bumps & scrapes Zimmerman whined
about) but were still convicted of felonies for protecting themselves - and
the following expressions of outrage -- I'd doubt we'd have made the
progress we've made (although there is still much progress needed).

And, of course, the expression of outrage over unjust treatment is
responsible for the civil rights advances we've made, although again,
there's still more progress needed.

I'm just unclear of the second point of 'to express outrage at the verdict'.
Is this just to blow off steam or is there something that needs to be
corrected with our justice system or Constitution or anything else?

Do you disagree with all vigils and rallies that honor victims, or is it
just this one that you're unclear about the point of???

Given the amoral behavior Zimmerman opted to exhibit, it seems to me that in
a perfect world, Zimmerman will soon meet up with someone exactly like
himself on a dark & rainy night when he was doing nothing more than making a
run to the convenience store for more Twinkies.

Fortunately for Zimmerman, we don't live in a perfect world.

Actually, I guess my "perfect world" thought isn't really perfect because
then God only knows how many more innocent victims would be hurt or killed
with two whackos acting like a neighborhood is the O.K. Corral!

Zimmerman is yet another example of what happens when a moron takes a gun to
something that would have never been anything more than a fist-fight . . .
at worst.

What would be the point? It was very controversial to bring George
Zimmerman to trial in the first place. He was acquitted. Not even a hung
jury. Outright full acquittal.

I hate sounding like a broken record but for whatever reason I can't seem to
get a basic point across that ***we do not have system of mob rule***. If
we did, Zimmerman would have already been lynched without due process long
ago. Would that be less of an outrage?

Visionaires,

I've been out of town for two weeks so I don't know if there's a rally or
anything scheduled on the Palouse in support of the Trayvon Martin family
and to express outrage at the verdict. If not, I'd suggest 6 p.m. Friday at
Friendship Square. Please either inform me of something previously planned,
or pass this around. I'd be willing to speak and I know others of you
would, too.

This saddens and angers me beyond measure. We have to speak out.

Love,
Keely
