Update: Pipe bomb at Latah County Courthouse found on Paradise Ridge Road
The Latah County Sheriff’s Office reports a man found what is believed to be a pipe bomb along Paradise Ridge Road south of Moscow and brought it to the Latah County Courthouse parking lot where it is now awaiting disposal by a Spokane bomb squad.
Sheriff’s Lt. Brannon Jordan said the man found a 6-inch PVC pipe capped at both ends with what looks like a fuse near Fabtec, Inc., along Paradise Ridge Road around 4:30 p.m. and brought it to the sheriff’s office for disposal.
“He said he didn’t want any children to find it so he just put it in his car,” Jordan said, adding people are discouraged from touching anything that looks like an explosive device and instead encouraged to contact law enforcement.
The device is being left in the man’s car until the bomb squad can remove and dispose of it.
“It wouldn’t surprise me if they put it up against a brick wall and shoot it with a water cannon,” Jordan said.
Streets surrounding the courthouse have been closed off and only essential personnel remain inside the sheriff’s office connected to the courthouse. Nearby residents have also been alerted.
The sheriff’s office learned the bomb squad departed Spokane around 7:30 p.m. and is expected to arrive around 9:30 p.m.
