FYI, Chasuk . . .

Familial brothers fought against each other during the Civil War. People were NOT committed to any particular cause based simply and solely on their geographical location.

The CSA (Confederate States of America) attempted to secede from the union, for several reasons ("slavery" being one of them). This took time and ultimately promulgated the Civil War.

Read a book.

But supporting erstwhile antebellum governments is not the point. The point is showing compassion. I feel compassion for our soldiers today who serve in Afghanistan, while not necessarily supporting our government's decision to put them there. In my estimation, victors and vanquished alike deserve compassion. In this case, the vanquished were our fellows, born on the wrong side of an arbitrary line.
