The following U.S. service members died while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom combat operations in Afghanistan, confirmed by the Defense Department from August 2, 2013 through August 8, 2013.

Army Spc. Keith E. Grace Jr., 26, of Baytown, Texas; assigned to the 4th Battalion, 320th Field Artillery Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

Army Staff Sgt. Octavio Herrera, 26, of Caldwell, Idaho; assigned to the 4th Battalion, 320th Field Artillery Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

Army Sgt. Jamar A. Hicks, 22, of Little Rock, Arkansas; assigned to the 4th Battalion, 320th Field Artillery Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

Army Spc. Nickolas S. Welch, 26, of Mill City, Oregon; assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Georgia.
