A bad day for Obama is a good day for America

By Neal Larson

Conservatives felt a nice mix of celebration and relief this week after the devastating failure of President Obama’s gun control push. Celebration over keeping the 2nd Amendment largely intact. And relief that Barack Obama is not the anti-Christ after all! Pretty sure the anti-Christ could have gotten gun control through Congress. But it’s clear that a lame duck golf-addicted President with an over-inflated sense of self and slipping clout cannot. What’s even better, is that members of his own party, concerned about their 2014 political prospects, bailed on him, derailing plans to blame Republicans for allowing the deaths of American children. That was supposed to be a key messaging element of a planned 2014 Democratic takeover. He knew all along the Manchin-Toomey bill was doomed in the House, and that’s where it was supposed to be defeated to maximize their political strategy.

You can be sure that a bad day for President Obama, Michael Bloomberg, Dianne Feinstein, Joe Biden, and whiny leftist elite newspaper editorial writers across the country — is a good day for freedom and America. My grin widens even more when I consider that Americans are now far more armed than ever with these past few months of justifiable frantic gun and ammo purchasing. And still no gun control! Perhaps Obama, the most effective gun seller in history, has unwittingly bought the Republic some time. God works in mysterious ways.

And has anyone noticed that despite massive gun sales in the past few months, we’re not seeing a huge spike in gun violence? Doesn’t anyone on the left — who insist that more guns equals more crime — go “Hmm… that’s weird”? Perhaps thoughtful inquiry isn’t their strong suit, especially when it might threaten the narrative.

One of the most oft-repeated nauseating talking points these past few weeks pointed out that over 90 per cent of Americans are supportive of expanded background checks, and that the no-voters ignored the will of the people. It’s sort of like saying 90 per cent of Americans like ice cream. That is until they find out it’s asparagus-anchovy flavored ice cream. The bill would have placed an undue burden on law-abiding gun purchasers, and driven up sales of illegal gun purchases. The left just doesn’t seem to understand that people who have no regard for the law, well… have no regard for the law.

While there are plenty of low-information, Obamaphone-using, Occupy-movement-promoting, food-stamp-collecting minions who ingest the MSNBC talking points like candy, enough politically active and thoughtful Americans understand that this bill would have done absolutely nothing to stop Adam Lanza at Sandy Hook and most of the other insane mass shooters hell-bent on killing. And furthermore, recent polling from Gallup which surveyed over a thousand adults in America about gun control’s significance found only four per cent consider it important. Four per cent! One in twenty-five! For the math challenged people — for instance, those who think that Obama’s $16.5 Trillion debt is acceptable — that’s not a lot of people. So, even if 90 per cent of Americans actually do support expanded background checks, they’re probably just slightly more passionate about it than, say, oatmeal or the color taupe.

One final thought. We all worry about a President’s second term, especially this President’s, since he does not face re-election. Perhaps those concerns are softened a bit by the fact his fellow Democrats don’t have a subsequent Presidential term to protect.
