Federal Building receives first bid
The General Services Administration received its first bid for the Moscow Federal Building on Thursday following a drop in its minimum online auction starting bid.
It's been more than a month since the Federal Building went up for auction, and the first offer of $400,000 came after GSA lowered its opening bid from $300,000 to $200,000. GSA spokeswoman Stephanie Kenitzer said the opening bid was lowered to generate more interest from the public in acquiring the building as advertising efforts continue.
"We're trying to continue to gain interest in the building and bids, and this particular move must have worked," she said.
While GSA set its deposit for bidding at auction at $30,000 - 10 percent of the original starting price - that amount will not drop to $20,000 to reflect the new starting price, Kenitzer said. Bidding will continue in minimum increments of $20,000.
A soft closing date for the auction is set for Oct. 12, but the bidding process will extend an additional 24 hours for each day a new bid is submitted, Kenitzer said.
Andrew Schwartz, a realty specialist with GSA's disposal division heading up the property's sale, will also conduct two more open houses at the Federal Building at noon, 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. Friday and Oct. 5.
