Subject: AQA and Burn Ban issued 9-14-12

All,
Due to continued wildfire smoke throughout Latah, Nez Perce, Lewis, Idaho and Clearwater Counties, DEQ is extending the Stage 1 AQA and Mandatory burn ban until 10am Saturday, September 15, 2012. Air quality is currently in the Unhealthy category for all areas surrounding Moscow, Lewiston, and Grangeville. At this time people sensitive to particulates should avoid outside activities and everyone is encouraged to limit or reschedule strenuous outside activities, including sporting events. North Latah County near Potlatch is currently in the Moderate category but may become elevated to the Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups category throughout the day. All areas will see some clearing this evening and into Saturday morning; conditions are expected to be in the Moderate to Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups category. However, another high pressure is building and will impact the region but the start of the work week which could cause particulate concentrations to elevate. Please contact DEQ Lewiston Regional office at (208) 799-4370 for additional information. Smoke impacts and complaints can be reported to our Smoke Information Hotline at 800-345-1007.

Thank you,

Amber Rand
