Perhaps being on the ballot in a minimum number of states would suffice?

Here is the list of the third party candidates that have gotten on the most ballots:

Libertarian Party: Gary Johnson  (Johnson/Gray are on all ballots except in Michigan, Oklahoma and Pennsylvania where their ballot access has been challenged. (492 Electoral))

Green Party: Jill Stein (Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, DC,
Delaware, Florida, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana,
Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, New
Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Washington, West
Virginia, Wisconsin - (428 Electoral))

Constitution Party: Virgil Goode (Alabama, Colorado, Florida, Idaho, Iowa, Louisiana, Michigan,
Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York,
Nevada, North Dakota, Ohio, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota,
Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, Wyoming - (253
Electoral))

Justice Party: Rocky Anderson (Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Idaho, Louisiana, Michigan,
Minnesota, Mississippi, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oregon, Rhode Island,
Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, Washington - (152 Electoral))

All of them are on the ballot in Idaho and Washington, in case you are wondering who these other people on the ballot are that haven't been mentioned on TV.

Mr. Rumelhart -

I am certain that there are qualifications that must be met prior to recognizing somebody as a bonafide presidential candidate (third party or otherwise).  Simply saying "I'm a candidate" does not open the door or place your name on the ballot.

Seeya round town, Moscow.

Does anyone know if any 3rd party candidates were even asked to attend the "2012 Presidential Debates"?
