[Vision2020] Say What?

I would say so. Medical Doctor? with his belief system? Scared now....and somehow, one thinks a degree in chemistry might just relate to bigger scientific mind than he seems to have.
On the other hand (or maybe the same hand?) I have been confronted with a "may we pray with you" in both a local physician's and a local dentist's office. I'm all for prayer, but if you need to pray over my sore knee or my teeth, it makes me wonder about your ability to do your job unaided. By all means, pray silently in your faith if that inspires you as a capable physician or dentist, but it certainly doesn't inspire confidence in your capability if you want to do it out loud with patients who may or may not be part of your religious tradition---in fact, it makes me worried for patients who say "No" to being prayed for. Do they get the same quality of care?

I just ran away bravely to a doc who wanted to take care of me, didn't involve a diety, and didn't care if I was Xtian or anything else but ill and needing treatment.

He has a B.S. in Chemistry, and an M.D. An obvious pick for a science committee. Education fail?

I weep because he is "Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA), Chair of the House Science Committee" in a country which is supposed to be founded in logic and science, not because he's a religious nut job who believes the unbelievable. He is entitled to his opinions and beliefs, but who put someone with his obvious lack of credentials (including SENSE) on the Science Committee? Those who put him on the committee have more to answer for than he does---they knew he was a snake when they picked him up. I weep because it is possible to have a complete "anti-science" ninny as chair of a SCIENCE COMMITTEE of our elected representatives, who make decisions about SCIENCE on our behalf....it makes my head ache that this is even an option, let alone common practice in "the most enlightened nation in the world".

Why? He's from Georgia. This isn't any surprise to me. You'd get pretty much the same thing from any of the conservative Southern States + Idaho. And lots of people probably benefit quite a bit by believing that they have a savior - but that should be their choice IMO instead of being brainwashed.

“All that stuff I was taught about evolution and embryology and the Big Bang Theory, all that is lies straight from the pit of Hell. And it’s lies to try to keep me and all the folks who were taught that from understanding that they need a savior.”

      - Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA), Chair of the House Science Committee
