[Vision2020] Actual Headlines!

These are great, and remind me of a true story my dad told me of a new reporter who seemed, ummmmmm, ill-suited for his job on the cop beat -- or any other.

One of his first, and last, stories for the Tucson Citizen in the early 1960s had as its lede (that's how you spell the first paragraph of a news story):

"Johnny Jones of Tucson received the shock of his life late Friday when he was electrocuted after dropping his radio into the bathtub in which he was sitting, police reports said."

Editors killed the headline and Mr. L's career -- something I'm not sure the "personality-oriented journalism" staff Daily News would quite see as necessary, even appropriate ... and, of course, the D-N would cover the story by surveying neighbors' comments on daily bathing and hit radio before ID'ing the victim in the fifth paragraph or so.
