Moscow Food Co-op news is relevant to community
In his letter to the editor (Daily News, Jan. 25), Jonathon Smith urges this newspaper to not publish "gossip" like the article of Jan. 20 about the departure of the new general manager of the Moscow Food Co-op.
Smith is wrong. That article is just what we expect and deserve from the Daily News - local news, news about events relevant to our community. The Moscow Food Co-op is an $8 million per year business, the largest retail establishment downtown and clearly the anchor store for downtown Moscow. Changes in the management, especially in relation to the article about the "ruckus" involving the Co-op's board eligibility rules printed a few days earlier, are important to the 6,000 members/owners of the Co-op as well as the rest of the community.
The fact that the article was "light on details" about the manager's departure is not the fault of the newspaper. The Co-op, like virtually every institution in the U.S., keeps personnel matters confidential due to legal requirements. If the Co-op and the manager won't talk, there's not many details to print. However, the article certainly was not gossip. The facts were checked and the context verified.

Checked facts?
Verified context?
Hmmm. What fascinating suggestions! How about looking into it, D-N? Concepts like those might actually catch on, dontcha think?
Seeya later, Moscow.
