[Vision2020] Mitt Romney vs. Ron Paul on civil liberties

Paul,

I don't think you will find a candidate that is against all those things that would get the financial backing needed to win.

Ron Paul doesn't have a chance of winning the nomination or the general. The only two horses that stand a chance of winning is Romney and Obama. Obama has about 65% chance of winning and Romney a 35%.  Even if both pulled out of the race, it still wouldn't be Paul. Hillary Clinton and a Republican not in the race right now would replace Obama or Romney not any other person in the race. Paul is a show horse, an issues piece, not a player for President. His power is only to shift the platform of Republicans, not the presidency. I don't even think he wants to be President.

Yeah, I'm not personally crazy about his abortion views, but since he is the only candidate for whom the stopping of the Executive from gathering even more power to themselves is even on the radar, I'll have to take the bad with the good in this case.

If we can find another candidate who is against the Patriot Act, warrantless wiretaps, extraordinary rendition, Gitmo, and all the other atrocious legislation and over-reaching that has happened in the last decade or so, then maybe I would vote for them.  Romney is all for it.  Obama has talked a good game and then has been shown to be a supporter of this kind of power grab.  Is there any other candidate who is against it?

Paul

Of course, Paul won't hesitate to curb a woman's right to control her body:

guess it's not a civil liberty.

Mitt Romney on civil liberties and the Patriot Act:

tl;dr version: "Whatever it takes to save me from terrorists!"

Compare and contrast that with Ron Paul's thoughts on the Patriot Act:

or this excerpt of a talk he gave at Georgetown University:

Mitt Romney is more of the same.  Ron Paul might well be, too, for all I know, but at least there is a chance we can turn some of this around if he gets elected.
