W,
It can be truly said that your poorly conceived and mounted conspiracy theory bloviations have been, for me, a source of entertainment when I read the pages of this listserve.
For some years, I have looked in the eyes of those who have chosen to serve this community by signing on as elected officials. Never have I felt, whether I agreed with them or not, to be a particularly nefarious lot.
I must laugh at the volumes of dreck generated by your highly educated, but indeed, spiteful brain.
I need only reference volumes of public records requests you've made of the council. Made for no other reason but for spite. Has the public ever seen the payoff for what has truly been a vindictive effort on your part to cause a chilling effect at city hall when it came to timely functions and the service of the residents of Moscow? If you've got some substance to your claims then, for sakes, do something. I've been listening to your ramblings for five years now and I must say it's had it's course. If you've finally something of substance to add to the gunning of you intollerista engine then by all means, let's have it. Otherwise, start attending city council meetings. Start taking part in positive things that can improve the quality of life here. Ask to join a commission. Be a part of some positive change, if that's what you would like to see happen. Until you've done that, your not really helping anyone or anything. Rather you've merely fed your head from your reading couch and reminded everyone, once again, how angry and well-educated you are. Bravo.
Should we raise an eyebrow when decisions about topics such as the Hawkins Companies' speculations in the area are made in an obscured way? Absolutely. But, I would ask you to put yourself in their shoes. Newly elected officials, making decisions sure to be scrutinized, right out of the gate. Isn't that an unenviable position to find oneself in? Do I pity them. Of course not. They agreed to be elected, therefore they must be ready to deal with the consequences of making unpopular decisions. But none of them should be viewed as villains. They've done their best for the people who live here. Even for those who pillory them on a regular basis on this listserve.
I speak to you and those on this listserve whose default position seems to be self-righteous indignation. Do not misconstrue the substance of what I am saying here. Truly, I am working from a position of complete respect for those who have lived in the Moscow-Pullman community for many more years than I.
But my work in this community over the last five years has been informed by trying to serve. And my fervent belief is that those elected to the Moscow City Council feel the same way. One only look south to the city of Bell, California to witness true corruption on a municipal scale.
I have been proud to be a resident on Moscow. And since my journalism work is no longer solely based here here I can now tell you I have enjoyed listening to you and the others who contribute to this listserve. It reminds me daily how enjoyable the citizenry of this area truly is. I have tried to serve you well.
Sincerely and respectfully,
Rory Curtiss Van HyningFormer reporter and news director

Slime mold is very contagious. Krauss caught from Walter Steed it just after he was elected. Subject: Re: [Vision2020] As Our City Council Degenerates . . . Huh – I thought the city council was non-partisan? Maybe Krauss missed that little factoid? Gosh – I’m also pretty sure I remember Krauss lamenting a lack of civility in local elections a few of years back & being pretty indignant that his integrity had been questioned. Does anyone else remember that stunt? It seems to me that perhaps those questioning his integrity – or lack thereof – back then may have been the true visionaries, and Krauss needs look no further than himself for an explanation of community polarization L I’d say he’s proven himself to be a real horse’s ass, except I find the whole affair to be truly sad & disappointing. My initial impressions of him had been that while he clearly wasn’t the sharpest knife in the drawer, he was a thoughtful man interested in working to unify the community – clearly, my favorable impressions were wrong . . . dead wrong. I’m finished offering another side of him to those who thought him one-sided and one-dimensional because he’s proven that he is, in fact, one-sided and one-dimensional. If he had an ounce of integrity, he’d resign for his shameful ham-handed politicization of non-partisan offices. Subject: [Vision2020] As Our City Council Degenerates . . . Reich Fuehrer Krauss dictates: " . . . he never told Lamar he favored him for vice president, and he felt that position should be filled with someone whose views were more in line with the president." Only party loyalists who have signed the loyalty oath (in blood) will be considered for council appointment! All others will be dealt with severely, rechtig Fuehrer Krauss? Courtesy of today's (January 12, 2012) Moscow-Pullman Daily News concerning the January 3, 2012 city council session. Only party loyalists will be considered for council appointment. ------------------------------· A council workshop to decide preliminarily who would replace Krauss as council president was less contentious than deciding a vice president to elect. Councilor Dan Carscallen moved from VP to president Tuesday following his re-election to the Council in November.Councilor Tom Lamar had poised himself to take Carscallen's seat as vice president, receiving a nomination from Councilor Sue Scott that was rejected. When Krauss nominated Tim Brown, however, Lamar protested, stating he had been led by the former council president to believe he was in line for the position. Brown was later elected VP.Mayor Nancy Chaney later added before the end of the meeting that she agreed with Scott, who first nominated Lamar, that as Lamar had garnered the most votes in the November election over Krauss and Carscallen, he should have been favored as a better representative of city residents."I think that's a mistake in a representative democracy like ours," Chaney said prior to the meeting, adding after the election, "Tom, you're a stand-up guy. You handled it well." She added she felt Brown would do well in the position.Chaney and Krauss argued over her comment following the meeting with Chaney stating she did not appreciate Krauss' opposition to Lamar as vice president based on his opinion that Lamar's political leanings were more in line with her's than the rest of the council. After the meeting, Krauss said he never told Lamar he favored him for vice president, and he felt that position should be filled with someone whose views were more in line with the president."Tom seemed to be under the impression in past interaction that I was supporting him for vice president," said Krauss. He added of his argument with Chaney that a city council is like a family and, "We may not all get along, but we all love each other."------------------------------Seeya later, Moscow.
