Going from life on the streets as a feral to being a Blue Ribbon winner is not easy - but as Tank the cat will tell you, it's a long way to the top if you wanna rock 'n roll on Caturday.

Tank's tale: From life on the streets to cat show winner

This cat's tale is somewhat of a "Cinderella story."

Six months ago, The Oregon Cat Project got a call about a feral cat at an area vet hospital. He wasn't much to look at - thin and dirty, covered in scabs. He seemed to be about five or six years old, and his ear was cropped – the trademark of a trap-neuter-return cat.

After his arrival at The Oregon Cat Project, it was hard to tell Tank's true personality, since he was in "shut-down mode."

But the organization, which works with feral cats, continued to care for him, and Tank came out of his shell. He seemed to relish his new human friends, often standing on his hind legs to "head-bump" volunteers.

The organization recognized Tank's transformation and chose him as an entrant for the CFA's Oregon Cats Classic's Household Cat Division.

Tank took top honors in the Household Cat Division at this past weekend's Oregon Cats Classic, but he still needs a home.

Upon arriving at this past weekend's show at the Portland Expo Center, Tank withdrew back into his shell, shyly hiding in the back of his pen away from fans or judges.

But in the ring for his second class, a judge saw a spark in Tank and awarded him with sixth place.

Then the judges chose their top 10, which included Tank and several of his catmates at The Oregon Cat Project. When it came down to the top two cats, the judge hesitated, then awarded Tank with the blue ribbon, announcing, "This is my best household cat in show."

"My eyes welled up with tears as they gave him his 1st place ribbon – here was a real Cinderella story for all cats" says Tank's rescuer, Dana Lionel, founder of The Oregon Cat Project.

Tank returned on Sunday to take home ribbons for 1st, 2nd and 9th place, ranking him the top household cat in the show.

But while Tank has turned his life around, he still needs a home of his own. You can visit him at
