Reminder Regarding Use of City Trees

February 10, 2012 (Moscow, Idaho) -In response to an article published in Friday's Moscow-Pullman Daily News regarding the tapping of maple trees for syrup and joining a Palouse Maple Syrup Coop, the City of Moscow is reminding citizens that all trees, including maple trees, located within the street right-of ways are subject to City laws and protections [ord. 8-5 Sec 8-6(1&3)]. At this time, the City is not granting permission for the tapping of these trees.

The article points out that tree tapping does not harm the trees, but research has shown otherwise, especially on older and stressed trees. Trees located on private property, not in the right-of-ways, can be used as per the owner's discretion.
