And yet they alone have so much influence, on a single issue, that it can
determine for the majority of citizens who is elected and appointed?

Seems unfair.  

That being said, "boo" to all the representatives that cave to a single
interest over the wellbeing of our nation.

No. They get to have an preference and work toward it's realization just the
same as any organization comprised of American voters.
