PRESS RELEASE
Intermodal Transit Center Grand Opening

December 12, 2012 (Moscow, Idaho) - The City of Moscow and University of Idaho are hosting a dedication ceremony and ribbon cutting for the newly completed Intermodal Transit Center on Friday, December 14, 2012 at 2:30 p.m. Tenants in the building include the University of Idaho Parking and Transportation, local public transit provides Regional Public Transportation, Inc. (also known as Moscow Valley Transit), and Community Transportation of Idaho (CTAI). Additionally, the City of Moscow is excited to feature the completion of the College Street and pedestrian bridge project.

Fixed-route public transportation use in Moscow has increased on average, 14% since 2006, after a 47% increase during the first two years of operation. In 2012, there is an average of 14,874 boardings (individuals boarding the bus) per month, or approximately 676 per day.

The Intermodal Transit Center is the result of a $1.5 million Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER II) grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation. The facility is designed to feature exterior covered structures with a foot passenger loading zone and secure parking for buses and bicycles. The ITC will link services provided by the local transit provider, the University of Idaho's Vandal Shuttle, and intercity bus service provided by Northwestern Trailways and Wheatland Express. The facility will also provide access for taxis, vanpools and carpools, and will expand pedestrian and bicyclist accessibility with access to Paradise Path. The components of the ITC have been designed to provide a seamless, one-stop concept for transportation in the community.

All tenants began operating out of the new facility on December 10, 2012. As the local transit provider is now based out of the Moscow facility, rather than the previous Lewiston office, slight adjustments were made to the local bus routes, which are running smoothly and on time. Primarily, the 10 minute layover that was held at the Student Union Building on campus is now held at the ITC. For a current route map, visit www.r2transit.com<http://www.r2transit.com>.
