Woman Alive After Sleep Swimming in Snake River

BURLEY • A Burley woman who went missing in the early-morning hours Tuesday was found safe after apparently swimming in the Snake River while asleep.

According to a Cassia County Sheriff's report, the 31-year-old wife and mother has a history of sleep walking. The report says deputies located her one other time disoriented and soaking wet in the city of Burley after apparently swimming in the river. This was the third incident in the past five weeks, the report says.

After the Tuesday incident, a Cassia County judge issued an order to have the woman’s mental health evaluated and she was not found to be a danger to herself or others, the report says.

The woman’s husband called the sheriff’s office at 2:25 a.m. to report his wife missing after finding a sliding door in their home open. The woman apparently left the home in pajamas and barefoot.

Mini-Cassia Search and Rescue was called out to assist with the search along with a neighbor and members of the couple's church.

The woman was located about a quarter of a mile downstream from her home on the Cassia County riverbank. She was wet and hypothermic. The woman was taken to Cassia Regional Medical Center by ambulance.

According to the sheriff's report, a deputy told the woman's husband they needed to get help with the problem because in another month the temperatures will drop and the outcome could be more severe.
