BULL <pause> SHIT Roger. This Akin character is obviously staunchly pro-life. So much so, that he'll make an exception for an ectopic pregnancy since it'll kill the mother and itself anyway, but no exceptions for any type of rape ('legitimate' or in his own mind 'illegitimate'). His idiotic statement (that you downplay as a mere 'gaffe') that rape based pregnancies don't occur isn't really relevant because he continued down this same path to say that if the woman's system didn't shut down as it was designed to do during the 'legitimate rape' that: 'Let’s assume that maybe that didn’t work, or something, I
think there should be some punishment, but the punishment ought to be on
the rapist and not attacking the child.'

If Republicans were smart - which they are not - they would just say it like it is with out trying to sugar coat it and without trying to send 'coded messages' like 'state's rights' and 'strict constructionist' when trying to pussyfoot around the issue of abortion. Is there some reason why they can't just say that they're against all abortions and that they will push to legislate outright bans on all abortions without allowing any exceptions whatsoever for them??? And I mean some reason other than the fact that this will be political suicide for saying something like this.
