[Vision2020] The recent death of two leftists

It was just my way of saying that I think he has done great work in the field of computational linguistics, but I don't always agree with his opinions re: politics.

Never fear!  I plan to regale you all with more climate science posts as soon as I get some time, in my never-ending fight to balance rampant, politically-motivated alarmism with common sense.

Paul,

What is the basis of your Chomsky critique below? Today's research project? Or have you read him and find fault with the basis for his conclusions? Are you saying he makes things up? What exactly do you mean, and what's your basis for your opinion?

And if he should be leaving politics to the politicians, have we then seen the last of your analyses of climate science and global warming? Will you be leaving that subject to the climate scientists?

Wikipedia claims that The Nation was founded in 1865 by abolitionists as well.  I did find an article from The Nation (authored by Noam Chomsky and Edward S. Herman) that didn't exactly deny Cambodian genocide but was definitely skeptical of U.S. claims of the number of deaths expected and so attributed, and attributed many of the deaths they did concede happened to the actions of the U.S.  I didn't look up any other claims.  The magazine self-describes itself as "the flagship of the Left".  I've never read Alexander Cockburn and thus can't comment on his political leanings.

P.S.  If only Noam Chomsky had stuck with context-free grammars and logical structures of linguistics and left the politics to the politicians...

Calling the Nation a left of center publication is putting it mildly. It was founded in 1865 by abolitionists. Since 1900 it has become a far left publication. It supported Pol Pot, Lenin, Stalin and Ho Chi Minh.  They denied cambodian and Soviet genocide. It had active communists as writers. Being a former communist is another thing. Some of the original writers for National Review were former communists. Cockburn was defiantly anti Israel, but if you check him out on Google or Bing, you can come to no other conclusion but that he was also anti-Semitic.
