[Vision2020] Guns and Background Checks . . .

This is a very interesting cartoon. There is a point to it, no doubt.
But the point can't be that we should impose limits on firearms
depending upon one's "philosophical" (in this case political)
opinions, right? Whatever we say about the second amendment, it should
afford people of different political, religious, etc. affiliations the
same rights, all other things being equal. As much as I'd like to
distance myself from hate groups, at heart I'm a lover of freedom (in
this case, the right to bear arms).

But that's not what I wanted to say. I wanted to say something about
the Tom/Wayne slugfest because something got lost in that dialogue. In
a previous post Tom wrote:

"... nobody is denying anybody second amendment rights. The question
concerns appropriateness of the venue and the necessity of a CWP.
Taking firearms into a theater was inappropriate in Aurora (Colorado)
as it is in Moscow, Idaho, and ... Any venue where a person can carry
a concealed weapon, that same person can carry that same weapon in
plain sight."

There's more but this is enough. I didn't want that point to get lost.

Tom also notes that it might be better if we were allowed to carry our
weapons openly. In Arizona, you can do so! Once I saw a man riding a
motor cycle with a weapon the side of my head strapped to his side.
"Viva la freedom," is what I say. There aren't a lot of folks who do
that but those that do seem to know what they are doing. And one can
see what she's up against.
